Survey on Using "Pay for Performance" to Improve Health Outcomes in Developing Countries

May 7 2009

Does your program use pay-for-performance (P4P) to improve health outcomes? Or are you familiar with such programs? If so, we would appreciate your input.

Health Systems 20/20 is beginning an initiative to systematically document "who is doing what" in P4P for health. The project is not only interested in learning more about common P4P programs and why they are working (or not), but also why a particular P4P program was chosen, how stakeholder support was generated and how P4P interventions have been designed, administered, monitored, and evaluated. Health Systems 20/20 has developed a comprehensive survey to help document P4P experiences. Those familiar with P4P programs in their country are encouraged to take a few moments to complete the survey.

Rewards will be given to the top eight survey responses received; selection is dependent upon completeness and richness of survey response. Many countries are introducing targeted incentives linked to results to accelerate progress toward reaching the Millennium Development Goals.

Learn more about P4P and view examples.

As our goal is to have preliminary findings ready by summer and a final report by autumn 2009, we anticipate only being able to include responses that reach us by May 25, 2009.

All responses to this survey will contribute to a growing global P4P knowledge base. We appreciate you taking the time to share what you are learning and doing with regards to P4P.

We welcome any additional relevant documentation that you are willing to share on the P4P programs you are familiar with. Please send this information, or any questions you may have to Alix Beith (alixbeith@broadbranch.org).
