Supporting Collaboration and Dialogue Between Health Stakeholders in Benin

Actual Policy Use

The 2003 National Health Accounts estimation in Benin showed that health financing in the country was fragmented and inequitably appropriated. The principle source of financing was households at 52% of total health expenditure, while the government was 30.8%, the rest of the world, including donors, was 16.5% and the local collectives, mutuelles, insurances and public and private enterprises was .6%.

Over all, the NHA in Benin facilitated the recognition of certain health system dysfunctions with an evidentiary basis. It also helped to identify certain bottlenecks in the fight against poverty while supporting a process of collaboration and dialogue between actors to discuss health sector problems, priorities and strategies.
